Ralph Goertz is a film-maker, culture manager and freelance curator specializing in photography. Since 2010 he has been director of the IKS – Institut für Kunstdokumentation und Szenografie in Düsseldorf, making documentary films about Thomas Ruff, Thomas Struth, Candida Höfer, Jörg Sasse, Stephen Shore, Robert Mapplethorpe, and others. As a freelance curator he has realized exhibition projects and publications with, among others, Joel Meyerowitz, Peter Lindbergh and Garry Winogrand, Axel Hütte, Joachim Brohm and Alec Soth, and Martin Parr, and is currently in charge of the exhibition “Subjekt und Objekt. Foto Rhein Ruhr” (21.03. - 14.06.2020) at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf. “In any photograph I need to feel the relationship between photographer and subject/object.”
