TAXI

The Bene Taschen gallery exhibits a selection from the first photo project TAXI by Joseph Rodriguez. In order to earn a living, the photographer worked as a taxi driver in New York from 1977 until 1987. He records the moments rushing by with his camera. As a flâneur behind the wheel, he uses the taxi as a silent post of observation in order to capture the people and streets. As Taxi Driver works through these impressions on film in 1976, so Rodriguez documents the underworld using the medium of photography.
