“Where are you in your pictures?” Swedish photography icon A. Petersen reacted to Janzen’s portfolio with that question – an encounter that resonated long and hard. Frustration and incentive for the search for a personal, wholly individual pictorial language. Created for the series “Papillon” were analogue and digital works in black and white, which are highly revelatory of their protagonists and, moreover, document Janzen’s new-found understanding of photography and its complexity.
