As a mise-en-scène outside the stage, ENCANTO depicts, in large-format images, traces of unrenovated opera life, in prestigious spaces and rooms concealed from the public alike. The surprisingly recurrent presence of the figure of Carmen adds a moment-like layer to the dispassionate gaze. Via this theatrically played role, the beholders’ eye is led into the opera’s soul; the photographer herself is director and actor in one person along the way.
